History of Java

Java orginally called OAK . James Gosling was one of the inventors of Java. It is developed by Sun Microsystems of USA in 1991. Java is general purpose, object-oriented programming language. Java was mainly designed for the development of s/w for electronic devices like TVs, Washing Machine, Microwave etc.
In 1995 OAK was renamed to 'JAVA' ,
Later Netscape and Microsoft announced their support to Java. Now Java is leader in Internet programming.
Most important feateure of Java is that it is platformlanguage. Java programs can be executed any on any system. It is not dependent to any particular hardware or OS.
